Paul Pogba’s Brother Who Tried to Extort Him Sentenced to Prison

After years at the world’s top, including winning the 2018 World Cup with France, Paul Pogba’s career is in constant decline. The 31-year-old midfielder was suspended from activity due to the use of banned substances, a punishment that has since been reduced, and he’s had no shortage of problems off the field.

In 2022, Pogba was the victim of an extortion attempt, organized and executed by a gang of six people – including his brother Mathias. Today (Thursday), the French court decided on the punishments for the six offenders, with the headline being that Mathias Pogba received a prison sentence for extorting his brother.

Mathias Pogba, 34, a footballer himself, received a relatively light sentence. He will serve one year of house arrest with electronic monitoring, along with a two-year suspended sentence and a fine of 20,000 euros. For comparison, the gang member who received the heaviest punishment will serve eight years in prison.

In the extortion attempt that took place on the night of March 19-20, 2022, criminals broke into Pogba’s home and demanded 13 million euros from him. The affair was only revealed to the public five months later, when Mathias Pogba accused Paul of casting a spell on his then-France national team teammate – Kylian Mbappé.

The court ruled that Paul Pogba is entitled to compensation of 197,000 euros for economic damages and an additional 50,000 for emotional distress. The amount will be paid by five of the defendants, excluding Mathias Pogba who was not present during the extortion event.
